The first edition of the Journées de Chimie Analytiques (JCA) was organized in 2005, by the Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry of the University of Yaoundé 1.

Initially, this scientific meeting aimed to offer a framework where researchers can foster interactions and promote constructive and fruitful interactions between Cameroonian researchers. The targeted research area was focused on Analytical Electrochemistry. Few editions later, motivated by the higher interest of researchers working in other areas, the scope covered by the conference was expanded to other scientific disciplines working on pollution issues and environmental preservation.

Initially organized exclusively at the University of Yaoundé 1 annually, since the 7^th edition, this symposium has become biennial and also takes place in other Cameroonian cities (Dschang 2013, Douala 2015 and Ngaoundéré 2017), under the coordination of local researchers, members of the Cameroonian Group of Analytical Chemistry.

The 2019 edition will be held in Yaoundé under the general theme: Analytical tools and recent environmental challenges.
